Our approach

Talerie is built to respect your privacy by default. You can read every tale without an account, without logging in, and without being tracked across the web.

The only cookie we set remembers your language. A few other things are kept in your browser’s own storage: your display preferences (theme, typeface, font size, and line spacing), the tales you have started, with their title, cover picture, and the place where you stopped, so the home page can offer to continue reading, how many stars you gave a tale you rated, so you are not asked to rate it again, and your choice to turn off the anonymous statistics, if you made one. All of it stays on your device, is never sent to us, and disappears when you clear this site’s data in your browser.

What we process

Even without accounts, a little data is processed simply because the site runs on the internet:

• Technical data from your visit, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request, handled by our hosting provider in server logs to deliver and protect the site.
• Cookieless usage statistics (Vercel Web Analytics) that count page views and these actions: how far a tale was read; what was typed into the site’s own search box and which result was clicked; which filters were used; printing a tale; printing a coloring page, downloading its PDF, or saving it to Pinterest; sharing a tale or a coloring page; rating a tale (the number of stars); switching the page’s language; clicks in the rows of recommended tales; opening the hidden part of the “About this tale” section; and that the newsletter form was sent, never the address itself. An action may also note where the visit came from, such as a search engine or another website. They also record technical error messages, pages that were not found, and how fast pages load. None of this identifies you or is combined into a profile.
• When you rate a tale, we store which tale it was and how many stars you gave it. Alongside the rating we keep a fingerprint of your IP address, computed with a secret key that changes every day, so the address cannot be worked out from it without that key. We use it only to stop one connection from rating the same tale more than once a day or sending too many ratings at once, and we delete it by the end of the following day at the latest; the rating then remains with nothing linking it to you. Your browser also remembers how many stars you gave, so you are not asked to rate that tale again; this stays on your device and is never sent to us.
• The content of any message you send us by email, so that we can reply.

Who processes it

We rely on a small number of trusted providers who act as our processors. Where data is transferred outside the EU, it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses:

• Vercel, for website hosting and cookieless analytics.
• Neon (EU region, Frankfurt), for the database that holds our mailing list and tale ratings.
• Resend (sending from Ireland), to deliver our mailing-list emails; the provider is based in the United States and the transfer is covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
• Google (Google Workspace), for our email at adam@talerie.com; the transfer is covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
• GitHub, for the private repository where we keep the working records of our letters to curators; the transfer is covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
• Anthropic, whose AI tools help us draft and sort that correspondence.

Legal bases and retention

We process this data on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website, understanding its use in aggregate and protecting tale ratings from abuse, and, for email, in order to respond to you.

Server logs are kept for one day, and the IP fingerprint attached to a rating until the end of the following day at the latest. Email is kept for as long as we need it to deal with your request. We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not carry out profiling or automated decision-making.

Mailing list

If you leave your email address on the site, we store it so we can let you know when personalized fairy tales or personalized coloring pages launch, depending on where you signed up. If you signed up on or after October 3, 2026, we will also write to you now and then about what is new on Talerie; earlier subscribers receive only the launch notice. We do not use your address for anything else.

We also record when you signed up and when you confirmed, the IP address and browser you used, and the exact wording of the consent you saw: that is the evidence of your consent, which the law requires us to be able to produce. We also note the page on which you signed up, on the basis of our legitimate interest in knowing which parts of Talerie lead people to sign up.

Nothing reaches you until you confirm the address by clicking the link we email you. The legal basis is your consent. You may withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in any of our emails or by writing to adam@talerie.com, and we will delete your address. An address that is never confirmed is deleted within thirty days.

If we wrote to you

We write to people who run websites, libraries or schools whose work has to do with fairy tales and reading, to tell them about Talerie. We take the contact address and name from what the person or organization has published on their own website. We keep them, together with the page where we found them and our correspondence, so that we know whom we have already written to.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in introducing a free resource to people whose work it relates to. You can object at any time by replying to our email or by writing to adam@talerie.com. We will not write to you again, and if you ask, we will delete our correspondence with you and keep only your address with a note not to contact you.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the rights listed below. To exercise any of them, write to adam@talerie.com. You may also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

• The right to access the personal data we hold about you.
• The right to have your data corrected or erased.
• The right to restrict or object to the processing of your data.
• The right to receive a copy of your data in a portable format, where applicable.

Children

Talerie is meant for parents and children to enjoy together. Because we require no accounts and collect no profile data, we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. The current version is always the one published here, with its effective date.

Governing law and language

This policy and any related processing are governed by Czech and EU law. The English version of this policy is the authoritative one; other language versions are provided for convenience.
