Talerie is a free online library of classic fairy tales, retold in modern English that is easy to read aloud and paired with painted illustrations in the style of an old storybook. There are no ads, and no account is needed.

On Talerie, families can read Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and The Snow Queen in clear, modern English that sounds natural when read aloud and that even small children can follow. Each tale has painted illustrations that look as if they belong in an old storybook. The tales are free to read, with no ads and no account required.

Talerie was founded by Adam Kolek, a father who reads fairy tales to his daughter every night at bedtime. Most free versions of the classic tales in English are translations more than a hundred years old, full of awkward sentences and old-fashioned words that make a child stop and ask what they mean. Talerie retells the stories in modern language, staying faithful to the original public-domain texts, so they are easy to read aloud and small children can follow them. Adam approves every new tale before it is published. Each one has painted illustrations in the style of an old storybook, and many come with printable coloring pages. The best-known tales can be read in all seven of the site’s languages. Talerie is free, with no ads and no sign-up, and the texts are released into the public domain (CC0), so anyone may reuse them.
