Flora Annie Steel

1847–1929

Flora Annie Steel (1847-1929) was a British writer who spent some twenty-two years in India, where she also collected and retold local folk tales. Her English Fairy Tales (1918), illustrated by Arthur Rackham, gave the classic English nursery tales their lasting shape, including the little girl she named Goldilocks in The Three Bears.
