About this category

Most of the bears are out in the woods and meadows: a mother bear walking with her cub past ferns and mushrooms, a cub hugging a tree trunk as it climbs, a bear standing in the river among cattails, and a big bear picking raspberries off the bush.

The teddy bear with a big bow, the brown bear sniffing a tulip and the panda chewing bamboo are simple figures with thick outlines for little ones. The mother bear and cub, covered in folk patterns, and the tea party under a blossoming tree give older kids lots of small shapes to fill.

Bear fur rarely looks right in one flat brown. Start with a light tan, go over the back, ears and paws with a darker brown, and keep the muzzle pale. The panda needs only black and white, plus green for the bamboo, and the raspberries glow in deep red.

The teddy bear sheets make a sweet fit for a teddy bear picnic or a birthday, and the forest scenes go well with a bedtime story about bears or a lesson on woodland animals. The bear catching a fish in the river and the one picking raspberries are quick, easy pages.
