About this category
These capybaras take life slowly: one stands in the grass beside a daisy, one chews a mouthful of grass, one swims across the river past water lilies, and one dozes by a little pond with its chin resting on its front paws. A small bird rides on one capybara’s back.
All of these pages suit young children. The big capybara face, the mother lying down with her baby and the capybara with an orange on its head have the fewest shapes. The warm bath ringed with round stones and the riverside scenes have more plants and water to fill in.
A capybara’s coat is a warm reddish brown, so start with a light tan and add a darker brown along the back and around the ears. The flowers and scalloped bands drawn on their sides can take bright colors, and the water looks fresh in a pale blue with darker ripples.
Capybaras come from the rivers and wetlands of South America, and they are known for getting along with almost every animal around them. The pages with the butterfly, the turtle and the bird make a nice start for a chat about that, or for a quiet afternoon at home.
