About this category
Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November, and these twelve sheets keep to what sits on the table. A turkey stands face on with its tail spread into a fan, a horn of plenty tips out fruit and corn, a pumpkin pie has one slice lifted clear of it, and two ears of Indian corn lie with their husks curling back. The fuller half seats a family of four passing dishes, walks a turkey and three chicks through the grass, heaps a basket with squashes and sunflowers, lays a buckled hat among fallen leaves, and sets two children rolling pastry.
The pie and the pair of acorns are a few thick outlines apiece and can be done before supper. The family round the table and the scarecrow crouching to feed a turkey carry faces, patches and corn stalks enough for an afternoon. One sheet is left deliberately blank: the turkey holds an empty sign, and what a child writes there is usually the best thing on the page. A fanned tail reads better when every feather takes a different shade of one color.
